LA SAINTE TUNIQUE DU CHRIST OSTENSION BASILIQUE ARGENTEUIL / THE HOLY TUNIC FRANCE ARGENTEUIL

L’ostension de la Sainte Tunique du Christ a commencé le Vendredi Saint 25 mars dans la basilique Saint-Denys d'Argenteuil (95). Elle est ouverte tous les jours de 10h à 22h, jusqu'aux vêpres du dimanche 10 avril (17h00).

Les confessions sont assurées en permanence, sauf pendant la messe quotidienne.

Durant l'ostension, la messe est célébrée tous les jours dans la basilique d’Argenteuil :
- à 19h00 en semaine du 4 au 8 avril,
- à 12h00 le samedi 9 avril,
- à 11h00 le dimanche 10 avril.

ATTENTION : le mouvement de vénération de la Sainte Tunique s’interrompt durant les messes.

The ostension of the Holy Tunic of Christ began the Good Friday March 25th in the basilica Saint-Denys of Argenteuil (95). It opens every day of 10:00 to 22:00, until vespers of the Sunday, April 10 (17h00).

The confessions are permanently assured, except during the daily mass. Masses
During the ostension, the mass is celebrated every day in the basilica of Argenteuil:
- at 19:00 in week from April 4th to April 8th,
- at 12:00 on Saturday, April 9,
- at 11:00 on Sunday, April 10.

CAUTION: the movement of veneration of the Holy Tunic stops during the masses.

Qu'est-ce que la Sainte Tunique ?

La Sainte Tunique est l'habit porté par Jésus Christ durant les dernières heures qui ont précédé sa mort.

What is the Holy Tunic?
The Holy Tunic is the dress worn by Jesus Christ during the last hours which preceded his death.

Dans l'évangile :

L'Evangile selon Saint Jean évoque ce vêtement dans son chapitre 19, aux versets 23 et 24 : 23 "Quand les soldats eurent crucifiés Jésus, Ils prirent ses vêtements, et ils en firent quatre parts, une part pour chaque soldat. Ils prirent aussi sa tunique, qui était sans couture, d'un seul tissu depuis le haut jusqu'en bas. 24 Et ils dirent entre eux : Ne la déchirons pas, mais tirons au sort à qui elle sera"

Cela arriva afin que s'accomplît cette parole de l'Ecriture : Ils se sont partagé mes vêtements, Et ils ont tiré au sort ma tunique. Voilà ce que firent les soldats.…

Le vêtement des dernières heures :

Selon la reconstitution que l'on peut faire des dernières heures de la vie du Christ, il portait déjà cette tunique la veille de sa mort, losqu'il célébra la fête juive de la Pâque avec ses disciples, un repas au cours duquel il institua le sacrement de l'Eucharistie, c'est à dire la première messe de l'histoire. Jésus-Christ traverse ensuite les épreuves de sa passion : durant toute la nuit, il prie rempli d'angoisse au jardin des Oliviers, conscient que ses dernières heures sont venues : il est ensuite arrêté après avoir été trahi par Judas, l'un de ses discilples : il est jugé pour blasphème par les autorités religieuses juives, et livré au matin au gouverneur romain Ponce Pilate pour être mis à mort : après avoir été flagellé et humilié, il revêt à nouveau sa tunique, et en milieu de journée, porte sa croix jusqu'au Calvaire, où on le déshabille avant de le crucifier.

Une tunique sans couture :

La tunique du Christ est tisée tout d'une pièce de haut en bas. On dit qu'elle est "inconsutile", c'est à dire sans couture. Elle se présente comme une sorte de blouse à manches-courtes, qui descend jusqu'aux genoux avec une fente où passer la tête. On aime à penser, comme toute bonne mère juive que Marie, la vierge Marie, aurait cousu la tunique elle-même.

In the Gospel:

They took also his tunic, which was without seam, of only one fabric from the top into bottom. 24 they said between them: Let us not tear it, but draw with the fate to who it will be”

The clothing of the last hours:
According to the reconstitution which one can make of the last hours of the life of Christ, he carried already this tunic the day before its death, when celebrated the Jewish holiday of Passover with his disciples, a meal during which he instituted the sacrament of the Eucharist, i.e. the first mass of the history. Jesus-Christ crosses then the tests of his passion: during all the night, he requests filled of anguish to the garden of the Olive-trees, conscious that his last hours came: he is then stopped after being betrayed by Judas, one of his discilples: he is judged for blasphemy by the religious authorities Jewish, and delivered in the morning to the Roman governor Pontius Pilate to be put at dead: after being whipped and being humiliated, they cover him with his tunic again, and in middle of day, he carries the cross until the Martyrdom, where one strips him before crucifying him.

A tunic without seam: The tunic of Christ is very stoked part from top to bottom. It is said that it is “inconsutile”, i.e. without seam. It is presented as a kind of blouse to handle-short, which goes down to the knees with a slit where to pass the head. One likes to think, like any good Jewish mother that Marie, the Virgin Mary, would have bent the tunic herself.
